2024 Seminar on Human-Centered Responsible AI
Date: December 5, 2024
The Pioneer Research Group for Socially Responsible AI at Sungkyunkwan University hosted the “Seminar on Human-Centered Responsible AI” on December 5, 2024, at the International Hall, Sungkyunkwan University. The seminar featured a keynote lecture by Dr. Youngho Kim from NAVER AI Lab, titled “Designing LLM-Driven Personal Informatics Systems for Marginalized Populations.”
In his talk, Dr. Kim highlighted that while Personal Informatics (PI) systems—technologies that interact with people by exchanging self-knowledge—have advanced significantly with the rise of Large Language Models (LLMs) and the growing interest in mental health and well-being, most current systems are designed primarily for young adult users. Designing AI for marginalized groups such as children, older adults, or neurodivergent populations (e.g., individuals with autism or mental health challenges) introduces new technical hurdles and ethical considerations.
The lecture covered three recent studies conducted at NAVER AI Lab:
An ethnographic study on how the long-term memory of LLM-driven chatbots influences user engagement among socially isolated older adults.
A thought-provoking chatbot designed specifically for children.
A conversational journaling system to support psychiatric patients and clinicians.
This seminar provided valuable insights into how LLM-driven PI systems can be designed to serve diverse and marginalized populations, sparking meaningful discussion on the future direction of human-centered AI.
