2024 International Workshop on Responsible AI

The Pioneer Research Group for Socially Responsible AI at Sungkyunkwan University successfully hosted the “2024 International Workshop on Responsible AI” on December 20, 2024, at the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, Sungkyunkwan University (Seoul, Myeongnyun-dong). The workshop brought together leading experts from Korea and abroad across academia, industry, and government to examine the latest advancements in socially responsible AI technologies and to explore practical strategies for their future development.
The event opened with welcoming remarks by Professor Jinyoung Han (Director, Pioneer Research Group for Socially Responsible AI), a congratulatory address by Vice President Jaehyun Kim (Sungkyunkwan University), and greetings from Jaehoon Jeong (IITP).
The workshop featured a series of distinguished talks, beginning with a keynote lecture by Professor S. Shyam Sundar (Pennsylvania State University, USA), a world-renowned scholar in the field. This was followed by presentations from Professor Kwanmin Lee (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) and Professor Ángel del Pobil (Jaume I University, Spain), providing global perspectives on Responsible AI research and technology trends.
In the subsequent sessions, presentations by Professor Hyungsik Kim (Sungkyunkwan University), Dr. Hwaran Lee (NAVER), and Team Leader Junho Kwak (TTA, Korea) were accompanied by a panel discussion, offering diverse viewpoints on the development of AI in Korea from academic, industrial, and governmental standpoints.
Supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), the workshop underscored the importance of ensuring the reliability and safety of AI technologies. It also strengthened cross-sector collaboration while serving as a meaningful platform for international exchange, enabling Korean and global experts to share cutting-edge insights and connect them to domestic research efforts.
